The following case study is on a newly built property based in Dorset. The project was commercial and with a popular local residential property development company. The project included both a Dormer roof and fully dressed Dormer cheeks. Our team roofed the property with high-grade, premium Spanish slate. The choice of Spanish slate was perfect for creating a sleek and smooth finish. Spanish slate is known for being one of the best materials for long lasting, durable roofs. The reason for this is that they are incredibly high performing, but are also very visually appealing. As we mentioned, both a Dormer roof and Dormer cheeks were included in this project. The Dormer roof was completed with code 6 lead to the main roof, and the Dormer cheeks were fully dressed, welded, and oiled. Completed by our specialist lead operative, each of the elements to create the Dormer cheeks were completed to the highest standard.
Patination oil was utilised to seal and protect the lead. Lead is durable, a very long lasting roofing material, and can last up to around 200 years. However, lead can become discoloured when exposed to moisture. When the material gets wet, it can often create a carbonate build up, which shows as a white coating. Therefore, oiling the lead will prevent the carbonate from developing. The project was successful, and as a whole, it took our fantastic team only two weeks to complete!
