Residential New Build Property – New Slate Roof

Residential New Build Property – New Slate Roof

THE PROJECT

Our customer’s barn was in the picturesque village of Pentridge, close to the boundaries of Hampshire and Wiltshire. The barn was a new build Oak frame structure that needed a new roof. This building was going to be our customers new garage and carriage house.

THE WORKS UNDERTAKEN

We worked with traditional handcrafted tools, however, modern techniques were used to install a scaffold felt and batten slated roof with man-made slate tiles.

Slate tiles are often the preferred choice initially by homeowners because of how great they look once installed, however, they are the more expensive option when it comes to choices of tile. Visibly, they compliment the look of traditional builds like this barn. On the plus side, as well as looking great, they are easy to maintain and have fantastic longevity.

A good slate tile will give you a weather and mould resistant roof. Water damage, mould and mildew buildup can bring you additional maintenance costs over time. Whilst the cost makes them a bigger investment, the tiles will outlast most other roofing materials on the market. Therefore, this option has the potential to be a more cost-effective long-term investment for our customers. Another factor that is becoming more and more important to our customers is the environmental factor. Slate is a natural material and can be recycled for other applications once it is no longer required.

Rather than disposing of the tiles, slate can be repurposed and used as building material for walls, floors, pathways, etc. To finalise the project and to guarantee the longevity of our customers brand new slate roof, we fitted a high-quality new guttering system. This ensures the free flow of any rainwater away from the new roof. It is important to us that our projects are long-lasting and fantastic investments. Our innovative designs and high quality materials, of course, do the heavy lifting, but taking precautions to ensure that you have effective and functional guttering is always a great idea!

THE RESULTS

Our customer was very happy with the works undertaken and invited us to carry out further works at their property, we were of course happy to oblige! We think that the slate roof complimented the build perfectly and gave a real traditional finish to the external look of the barn.

Customer Testimonial:

“I have used Scott Miles Roofing twice recently, once to install a tiled roof to our new extension and the other time was to provide a slate roof to our garage and carriage house. On both occasions the work was carried out to a high quality and his team were friendly and obliging. I would not hesitate to recommend Scott and his team for any roofing work.”
